When St .Thomas Aquinas was born around 1224, the court of Aquino’s Lords, namely the County of Aquino, covered a vast area north of the Abbey of Montecassino, extending over the villages of Castrocielo, Roccasecca and Aquino.
Despite being of high birth (his parents were the Aquino Earls), the “Angelic Doctor”, doctor of the Church as he was known, chose the poor life as a Dominican friar. He spread his sanctity and knowledge along the routes of Europe, from Montecassino to Naples, then to Paris and Colonia..
